To our KASEP Families: Due to the ongoing presence of COVID-19 in our state, the Kensington Community Council and KASEP find themselves in a period of unprecedented transition which has forced WCCUSD and many other school districts to start the academic year providing only distance learning. We are following the WCCUSD’s lead in these matters. We have been working through the summer with our wonderful teachers to transfer to an online presence. We understand that many families are actively looking for enriching outlets for their children in the Fall, and we want to support our community by providing a variety of enriching opportunities. A number of our teachers have successfully taught online classes this summer and are willing to work with us in the Fall. However, we must acknowledge our limitations and respect the Contra Costa Health Service COVID-19 guidelines. As a non-profit, the KCC is limited in our scope of classes by the amount of open space, bathroom facilities, and staff available. As of this posting, we have only one set of bathrooms in Building E which limits the number of kids we can accommodate based on the Contra Costa Health Services guidelines. We do not have access to the Community Center at this time and do not know when kids will be able to use this facility. We realize that the start of the school year will be a difficult balancing act for everyone. We hope that you and your families are all well and continue into the Fall in good health.

KCC’s Online Registration has been extremely popular! But you do have to have fast fingers and be ready right at 7:30pm because in less than 20 minutes, many of our classes are full. If you do not have access to the Internet, please plan to come to the office at 7:30pm, or try calling us at 510-525-0292.

The Kensington After School Enrichment Program (KASEP) offers over 60 after school enrichment classes to students in kindergarten through sixth grade. There are three sessions each year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Registration for KASEP is now ONLINE. Payment can be made with credit card. If you want to pay with check or cash, you will need to come into the KCC Office to register and pay.

Kindergarten parents do not need to escort their children to KASEP classes. KASEP teachers walk the kindergarten students from school to KASEP. Parents or caregivers pick up kindergarten students at the end of their classes at KASEP/KCC classrooms.  Students enrolled in Neighborhood School will be walked up to NS at the end of their kinder KASEP class by KCC/KASEP staff.

Students in Grades 1-6 walk down on their own after school to their KASEP classes; students walk independently down by themselves.

What types of classes are offered?

KASEP and KCC offer athletic and movement oriented classes (tennis, sports and games, karate, dance, and gymnastics), art and craft classes (sewing, pottery, carpentry, zoo art and mixed media), music classes (keyboards and recorder), and other enrichment classes to include cooking, Spanish, drama, science and inventions.

Where are classes held?

KASEP classes are held in the Kensington Recreation Building, Community Center, tennis courts, and the large grassy playing field area, all just west and downhill from Kensington Hilltop School.

How do I find out more?
